Project Background

The City of Lee’s Summit with assistance from the design consultant, Garver, is currently in the design phase of the Ward and Persels Intersection Improvements Project (federal project number CMAQ-3302(429)), a project that was approved by voters with the passage of the 2017 Capital Improvement Plan Sales Tax Renewal.

The project improvements include the consolidation of the two intersections of Persels into one. The north T intersection of Persels at Ward will be shifted south to realign with the south T intersection on the west side of Ward Road. In addition to the realignment of the intersection, access management, safety, and capacity will be addressed along Ward Road through the intersection and to the south with the addition of turn lanes and medians.

This project also includes connectivity with the Rock Island Trail, street lights, traffic signal consolidation, waterline relocation and replacement, and storm sewer repairs and replacement.

The city anticipates these improvements will improve functionality, safety, and alleviate congestion at the intersection of Ward and Persels.
